But there exists more common, everyday violence that threatens queer people regularly, and it makes us reluctant to show affection in public. The most tragic and prominent example of this is the Pulse nightclub shooting in June 2016, which saw 49 people, most of whom were LGBTQ+, gunned down in a space created for the queer community.
